Veneers

Veneers can be used for cosmetic purposes to straighten, brighten and whiten your smile. Once fitted veneers are indistinguishable from your natural teeth and work, bite and chew just like them. You can have anything from a single veneer to improve the appearance of one tooth, to a complete makeover involving many teeth. If you are interested in getting veneers, Vitality Dental can help you. Contact us to get our experts to work on your smile.

What is a veneer?

Commonly used to achieve the ultimate smile makeover, porcelain veneers are custom-made, ultra-thin shells of tooth-coloured porcelain that are handcrafted by expert dental ceramists and bonded to the front of your teeth. You can see the difference between teeth without vaneers and teeth with veneers in the comparison images below:

Why would I need veneer treatment?

Comparable to what artificial fingernails can do for hands, dental veneers can transform crooked, badly worn, chipped, gappy or stained teeth – resulting in a true ‘Hollywood’ smile. They are one of a menu of cosmetic treatment options Vitality has at our disposal to improve your smile.

Gain self-confidence

Veneers can be transformative not just for your smile, but also for your self-confidence. A radiant, flawless smile means increased self-assuredness in social, professional, and personal settings. Veneers address any concerns about stains, gaps or poor alignment of teeth by offering a custom-made, natural-looking solution that revitalises your appearance.

Do veneers damage your teeth?

Veneers do not damage your teeth if the teeth are not cut down extensively as sometimes might be the case for crowns. If the teeth are already in a good position to receive veneers then they may not need any filing down or cutting. In these ideal cases, veneers can simply be placed over the top of the teeth. In some cases veneers can even be protective if the tooth underneath is worn or damaged. In the past, adhesives were not as strong as they are today and teeth were cut down to a peg and a cap/crown was made over the top. Now, adhesives are so strong that veneers can be made to cover just the front surface of the tooth. Veneers are often less than 1mm thick.

What is the procedure for veneers?

The process is simple and painless and usually requires between two and four visits to the dentist. Results last 10-15 years! A thorough check of gum health is required first and you will need to visit your hygienist to ensure your gums are in great condition before embarking on your cosmetic journey.

Stage One

  • We discuss your ideal smile
  • We take photos and x-rays of your teeth
  • We check the health of your teeth and gums
  • We discuss your options for veneers
  • We can show you a preview of the final result by mocking up your personalised veneer design on a model of your teeth

Stage Two

  • We make minor adjustments to the shape of your teeth, a painless procedure carried out under local anaesthetic for your comfort
  • We take impressions of your teeth and fit your temporary veneers
  • We discuss colours and designs
  • Following your visit, we scan the impressions and, using cutting-edge technology, design manufacture your new veneers
